Days may be shorter, but there’s still plenty to do in the Town of Parker as we close out another year. Make the most of the last month of 2017 by reviewing our list of 5 things to know for December.
Christmas Carriage Parade Dec. 9:
A tradition as unique as the Town of Parker, the Christmas Carriage Parade presented by Xfinity marches down Mainstreet at noon Saturday, Dec. 9. The all-equestrian parade, organized by the Town of Parker and the Colorado Driving Society, is free to attend and features dozens of horse-drawn carriages, wagons, surreys and stagecoaches from across Colorado, all dressed up for the occasion.
Event-goers may also enjoy a holiday farmer's market, a petting zoo and pony rides, ice sculpting, and visiting time and pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus! Ice sculpting, the petting zoo, pony rides and games will begin at 10 a.m. Pictures with Santa will be $5, cash only, after the parade from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Parker branch of Douglas County Libraries.
PACE Holiday Shows:
The PACE Center’s seasonal shows are sure to get you in the spirit of the holidays.
The Parker Chorale and the Parker Symphony Orchestra will treat audiences to an evening of traditional carols, familiar songs, and a few surprises in this annual celebration of the season. The artistic entities will present three showings of “A Classic Parker Holiday” at the PACE Center, 20000 Pikes Peak Ave. Shows are scheduled for Friday through Sunday, Dec. 1 to 3.
Another annual favorite, The Nutcracker of Parker takes place at the PACE Center Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 14 to 17. Presented by the Colorado School of Dance, the entire family is welcome to attend the dance school’s 14th anniversary production of Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic.
Mile High Worship Christmas 2017 takes place at the PACE Center Friday, Dec. 22. This event brings together a talented musical collective featuring Christie Gerwinat, Biff Gore, Leah Shafer, Shauna Chanda, Isidro Aybar Jr., Darren & Priscilla Rahn, Tarell Martin, Steve Selinsky, Marvin Craft, Peter Gunder, Michael Williams, Chris Scharf and more.
Where to review snow policies:
As winter officially arrives in December, it is worth reviewing the Town’s snow and ice removal policies in preparation for seasonal inclement weather.
Snow operations and snow plowing FAQs can be found at www.ParkerOnline.org/Snow. The 2017-2018 snow removal priorities map is available to view at www.ParkerOnline.org/SnowMap. This map reflects the revised Snow Plowing and Ice Control Policy approved by Parker Town Council in September.
Holiday facility closures:
Town facilities will be closed for the holidays Monday, Dec. 25, Tuesday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 1.
Additionally, the Parker Recreation Center and Parker Fieldhouse will close at noon Sunday, Dec. 24, are closed Monday, Dec. 25 and close at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31.
Monthly public meetings:
Parker Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 4 and 11 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet.
The Parker Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday Dec. 14 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.
The Parker Special Licensing Authority will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.
