Congratulations to Joshua Rivero, who was elected to the Parker Town Council in November 2012. Rivero has lived in Idyllwilde for six years and he owns and operates Fika Coffee House on Mainstreet. He was very involved with the Downtown Development Council (DDC) from 2008 to 2011, during which time many improvements were made to the downtown area, including new signage, trash cans and other beautification projects. The DDC also assisted in bringing the Parker Farmer’s Market back to Mainstreet.
Rivero decided to run for Council because he talks to a wide range of citizens every day about Parker and their feelings about what is and isn’t going well. He feels he can use what he has learned through this process to benefit the Town and its residents and plans on being a highly-accessible Councilmember. His top priorities on Council include ensuring that the Town stays on a strong financial path, enhancing the Town’s Economic Development efforts to bring more business to Parker, creating activities for teens and taking care of the Town’s aging community.
Rivero graduated from Ponderosa High School, studied Western History at Metropolitan State College of Denver and studied Swedish in Stockholm for two years. Through his business, Rivero sponsors many events and causes that occur in downtown Parker and he is a proud member of the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary.
He enjoys living in Colorado because it offers a lot of outdoor opportunities; his favorites include cycling, hiking, kayaking, golf and disc golf.
