Parker area residents are invited to attend the Police Department’s free spring citizen academy program, which gives participants first-hand information about how Parker’s Police Department operates. Classes will focus on traffic enforcement, accident reconstruction, DUI (driving under the influence) enforcement, investigations, sex offender registrations, evidence collection/fingerprinting, SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics), taser demonstration, Krav Maga (a self defense system), drugs, background investigations, bicycle patrol, police training program, municipal court, victim advocates and terrorism liaison program.
The classroom work, combined with field trips and tours will run from March 18 through May 20. The academy requires a commitment of one night a week from 6 to 10 p.m., with classes being held on Tuesday night, with one optional Saturday class at the shooting range.
Applications for the academy can be found online at www.ParkerPolice.org. All applicants are subject to a background check and must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 28, 2014. Participation is limited to 30 people, ages 18 and older.
