The Parker Town Council adopted the Mainstreet Master Plan - Continuing to Create Great Places and Spaces by a unanimous vote during its meeting on Monday, Sept. 21. The Plan is an element of the Town’s Comprehensive Master Plan, Parker 2035 – Changes and Choices. This action establishes an updated vision for the future of Mainstreet and concludes a year-long civic planning effort that involved residents, businesses, property owners, Town officials and other stakeholders interested in strengthening the heart of our community.
The Mainstreet Master Plan is focused upon Parker’s Downtown along Mainstreet from Twenty Mile Road on the west to Pine Drive on the east (near Town Hall). The Plan is a blueprint for the future growth and development of Downtown that builds upon previous planning efforts and a continually evolving Mainstreet corridor. It provides a policy foundation through which residents, businesses and stakeholders can be champions for a vibrant and revitalized Downtown centered upon Mainstreet.
During the summer of 2014, the Town initiated the Mainstreet Master Plan process that incorporated a year’s worth of analysis, plan development and outreach to residents, businesses, property owners and visitors. The combination of community input, data collection, policy review and sound planning principles guided the development of a vision and plan for the Mainstreet corridor. Parker has a track record of progressive planning to guide growth and development, and the Mainstreet Master Plan is a continuation of commitment to sound planning that contributes to our desirable quality of life.
The Mainstreet Master Plan contains goals, recommendations and implementation actions that are intended to guide land-use policy, promote sustainable development and strengthen Downtown as a premier destination to live, work and play. The Plan will require the cooperation, involvement and support of all stakeholders working towards implementation to realize our shared vision. Through this approach, the ultimate result will be an increasingly vibrant Downtown that distinguishes Parker from other communities in the region and is the civic, economic and social center of our community.
The Mainstreet Master Plan is one of several major planning projects that Parker has completed during the past two years. The award-winning Transportation Master Plan serves as Parker’s comprehensive plan for a balanced, multi-modal and safe transportation system. It was completed in 2014 and honored by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) in 2015 through their Local Government Award Program.
