Two-Hour Downtown Parking Program Data

In an effort to make more on-street parking spaces available for visitors to downtown Parker, Town Council authorized the implementation of a two-hour parking program in May 2017 to help increase parking turnover and utilization of key parking spaces.

The results of a parking analysis conducted in late August show that the two-hour parking program is achieving the objectives from the Downtown Parking Study and Plan:

  • The average number of parking spaces occupied in the study area dropped from 33 percent in 2016 to 25 percent in 2017

  • The average length of time that vehicles are parked in two-hour parking spaces dropped from 114 minutes to 75 minutes per vehicle

  • The percentage of vehicles parking longer than two hours in the same spot dropped from 19 percent in 2016 to 7 percent in 2017

Based on the results, no modifications to the parking program are needed at this time. Public parking lots will continue to be monitored as new development and redevelopment in the area may affect future parking in downtown.

In addition, the Town has hired consultant Kimley-Horn to develop new parking standards for the Greater Downtown District to require new developments to provide parking. These new standards will be considered for adoption by the Planning Commission and Town Council in early 2018.
