Phase 2 of the Schoolhouse Plaza and Parking Lot Renovation Project is scheduled to begin in mid-August.
Phase 1 construction, which included the reconstruction of The Schoolhouse’s south parking lot, is scheduled to conclude on Monday, Aug. 12 (weather-dependent). This parking lot, accessible from the south via Pikes Peak Avenue, will re-open for public use at that time.
Phase 2 construction will feature the permanent closure of The Schoolhouse’s north parking lot and vehicular access point via Mainstreet, as well as reconstruction of the east parking lot. The north parking lot will be replaced with an interactive pedestrian plaza. Enhancements related to the new plaza will include a lighted special event space off Mainstreet that can accommodate tents for public and private activities, a vehicle drop-off area next to the building, better signage, and improved lighting and sidewalks for pedestrians and cars. Phase 2 construction is scheduled to be completed late fall 2019.
Street parking time restrictions on Pikes Peak Avenue, running along the south side of The Schoolhouse property, have been relaxed during the entirety of this project. Visitors to The Schoolhouse will also be able to park in the south lot when it reopens, and both south and north building entrances will be utilized.
