[ARCHIVED] Small Cell Technology in Parker

Small Cell Tower

In 2017, a Colorado state law was created that gave cell phone service providers the right to locate small cell tower facilities on all public rights of way, which in Parker is property owned by the Town along streets and roadways. As a result, the Town adopted standards for the allowance of these facilities to comply with the new state law.

A small cell is a cell tower where antennas are located inside an enclosure of no more than three cubic feet. The Town has developed specific design standards for these facilities that include color, height, enclosure of equipment in the base and locational guidance. Typical small cells will be located on existing light poles. If no light pole is present, a new light pole may be constructed to house the small cell. In rare cases, a pole without a light may be constructed, or these facilities may even be attached to traffic signals.

Since the adoption of these regulations, the Town has received several applications from cell phone service providers to construct these facilities along streets in Town to improve cell service. Construction of these facilities will start within the Town this spring.
