[ARCHIVED] Volunteer for the Parker Cultural and Scientific Commission

PACE Center Building Sign

The Town of Parker has openings on the Parker Cultural and Scientific Commission. The Commission serves as an advisory body to Town Council and works with the Cultural Department, also known as Parker Arts, to foster, implement and participate in opportunities for cultural and scientific experiences for the community of Parker.

The Commission is seeking energetic individuals who are deeply committed to the vision that Parker Arts will be fundamental to Parker’s identity as a vibrant community. Annually, Commissioners are expected to attend six Commission meetings and to serve and volunteer on one or more of its committees and one or more of the free events supported by the Commission: Adult Lecture Series, Honey Festival, Historic Walking Tours, Discovery Park Concerts, and Art Gallery Receptions. In addition, although it is not required, Commissioners are encouraged to show their support for Parker Arts by attending ticketed performances, becoming a Family Circle member, and promoting Parker Arts to the community.

Successful applicants will have a record of past community involvement and/or volunteerism, and a passion for arts, science, history and culture. Diversity in age, cultural background, and vocation is welcome and encouraged. Committee descriptions, profiles of current PCSC commissioners, and minutes from previous PCSC meetings can be found at www.parkerarts.org/1989/Cultural-and-Scientific-Commission .

Commissioners will be appointed by the Town Council to serve two-year terms beginning February 2020.  The Commission meets every other month on the third Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Commissioners must abide by a conflict of interest policy which prohibits members from pursuing employment or paid contracting with Parker Arts.

To apply, please email a letter of interest detailing the reasons you believe you should be selected as a Commissioner, referencing the above-listed criteria. You must also include a resume or detailed bio. Send the email to Elaine Mariner, Cultural Director. The deadline for applications is Dec. 31, 2019. Select applicants will be asked to attend in-person interviews in early January 2020.
