[ARCHIVED] Living with Coyotes

Coyotes continue to be an issue in Parker. Attempts to control or reduce coyote populations are unsuccessful long-term and State regulations do not permit coyotes to be relocated. However, communities can safely coexist with coyotes if they are given the right tools, including the following tips:

Do not feed the coyotes, even unintentionally! This can make them less afraid of humans and potentially more dangerous. Never leave pet food or water outside as it can attract coyotes. Garbage should not be kept outside and should be placed in secure, tightly-sealed containers.

Always supervise your pets outside, especially from dusk to dawn. Keep pets inside at night if possible. Walk pets on a short leash and never let them interact with wildlife. Pick up small dogs when coyotes are visible. If a coyote is too close or approaches you, scare/haze it away.

Educate your children about the presence of urban wildlife and teach them to NEVER approach wild animals or domestic animals they don’t know.

Please report coyote incidents to the Animal Services Division at 303.841.9800. Reports of coyote activity will be investigated and addressed according to the Town’s Coyote Management Plan.
