[ARCHIVED] Barker Days is a Dog-Gone Good Time

Celebrate the dog days of summer at Barker Days 2011 on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at O’Brien Park, 10795 Victorian Dr. in Parker. The event will feature a temporary dog park in the O’Brien Park ball field and H2O’Brien Pool, canine demonstrations and dog-related vendors.

Dogs can take a dip in the pool (closed to humans for the season and neutralized to be dog-friendly), chase balls and frisbees on the baseball field, check out the agility course and demonstrations, hang out with fellow furry friends and rub noses with local dog-related service providers. A separate play area will be provided for small dogs that prefer to play with pups their own size.

In order to ensure a fun and safe event, owners are asked to follow certain guidelines. All dogs must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. Please, no more than two dogs per adult. Kids are welcome at the event, but may not be solely responsible for any dog and should be closely supervised. Dogs must wear a current rabies tag and ID tag at all times. Dogs are able to run freely within event boundaries, but it is important to keep a watchful eye on your dog. Owners are liable for their pets’ behavior and are responsible for keeping their dogs under control and within event boundaries. Leashes are required outside of the fenced event area and should be kept handy at all times. Owners are responsible for picking up after their own dogs; disposable bags will be provided. Dogs in heat, puppies under four months or who have not had final shots, aggressive dogs and dogs who are sick may not attend. The owner of any dog displaying mounting behavior must immediately leash and remove the dog from the situation.
Registration for Barker Days is $6 per Parker-resident dog and $8 for non-residents; their humans are free. Due to the popularity of this event, it is highly recommended that you pre-register at www.ParkerRec.com. Registration the day of the event will be on a space-available basis. Dogs who pre-register will have expedited check in and receive a “doggie bag” of treats, courtesy of local businesses. For additional event information, call the Parker Recreation Center at 303.841.4500 or email mnakashima@parkeronline.org.
