From Jan. 13 through Jan. 15, 11 members of the Parker Police Explorer Post attended the 2012 Tactical Competition hosted by the Chandler Police Department in Chandler, Arizona. The 14th Annual Tactical Competition involved over 50 different Law Enforcement Explorer Posts from as far away as Minnesota and from agencies as large as the Los Angeles Police Department, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Border Patrol. The competition, which focused on advanced law enforcement and S.W.A.T. team tactics and techniques, included such events as hostage rescue, vehicle assault, hostage negotiations, active shooter, high risk warrant service and marijuana grow operations. Several new events were introduced this year, including waterborne operations, explosive ordinance disposal and emergency tactical medical services. The events all required a good understanding of modern police tactics and emphasized teamwork, motivation and determination.
Representing the Parker Police Department were Explorer Captain Troy Brienzo, Explorer Lieutenant AJ Holton and Explorers Matt Allen, Sean Best, Taylor Farrell, Anna Fleiner, Delaney Geraths, Adam Mueller, Haley Piper, Travis Steers and Josh Voiles. As a team, the Explorers won first place in Explosive Ordinance Disposal, second place in Hostage Negotiations, fourth place in the Sniper Challenge and fifth place in the Tactical Emergency Medical Services competitions.
The Parker Police Explorer Post is a volunteer youth program designed to introduce participants to a career in Law Enforcement. Explorers develop leadership skills, receive hands-on career experience and volunteer their time for community service. The Post operates through fundraising and donations.
