The PACE Center announces its 2012-2013 season of performances in the Mainstage Theater. The season includes international acts, collaborations with artists and organizations, new work and family entertainment.
“As our first season comes to a close with Defending the Caveman on June 2, we have learned what the audience wants to see on the PACE Center stage,” said Jeannene Bragg, Cultural Director. “Our second season builds on the success of the first and offers some exciting new collaborations.”
International musicians Natalie MacMaster and Paco Peña visit the PACE Center in early 2013. Natalie MacMaster is best known as a virtuoso fiddler with a Celtic vibe, thrilling audiences around the world with her invigorating prowess while serving as a music ambassador to her beloved traditional Cape Breton sound. In February, Paco Peña performs Flamenco Vivo with authentic flamenco guitar. As guitarist, composer, dramatist, producer and artistic mentor he has transformed perceptions of this archetypal Spanish art form for over 50 years.
Collaborations abound in PACE’s second season. Exciting combinations include the modern dance of Ballet Nouveau Colorado and the classical 17th and 18th century sounds of the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado for A Dangerous Liaison in November. In February, Ballet Nouveau reunites with the hit band Paper Bird for an encore performance of Carry On, which got rave reviews last year in Arvada.
Continuing our commitment to developing work by local artists, PACE presents the world premiere of Scarlet Letter…the Musical in September, created by Parker’s own Melissa Faith Hart. Hart completed the original music and lyrics over the past five years, drawing on her training as a musician and performer as well as her love of Broadway. Placed in puritan Boston in 1642, this musical adaptation of Hawthorne’s “Scarlet Letter” depicts the story of a sinful choice of two unrequited lovers, and how they disrupted a utopian society and its religious expectations. Audiences today will appreciate this tale of a repressed society rocked by secrets, fear and hypocrisy.
Other theater productions for the new season include Cyrano de Bergerac by PHAMALY, A Christmas Carol and Godspell in partnership with Aurora Fox Arts Center, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by South Metro Children’s Theater (a partnership of PACE and the Lone Tree Arts Center), Always Patsy Cline and Little Shop of Horrors in partnership with Starkey Productions. Paul Dwyer is set to direct Little Shop of Horrors, which will feature a special midnight showing in addition to the day and evening performances.
On tap for the holiday season are Holiday Brass by the Denver Municipal Band, A Classic Parker Holiday by the Parker Symphony Orchestra and Parker Chorale, the return of the ever-popular The Nutcracker of Parker by Colorado School of Dance and A Christmas Carol in partnership with Aurora Fox Arts Center. The Nutcracker of Parker sold out all six performances last season, and this year’s show is set to be another hit. Ticket package purchasers will have early access to the classic production of A Christmas Carol.
Ticket prices remain low for the second season, with no ticket to a regular performance above $42.50. “The children’s shows are especially affordable this year with several shows starting at $5 per seat,” Bragg said. “We are also excited to bring the Colorado Ballet and Colorado Symphony Orchestra from downtown Denver to Mainstreet Parker, allowing audiences to experience these wonderful shows closer to home at an affordable ticket price.”
Other season highlights include Día de los Muertos by Fiesta Colorado Dance Company, John Denver Tribute, Denver Municipal Band, Rocky Mountain Brassworks, Colorado Children’s Chorale, Comedy Works All-Stars On The Road Tour featuring Phil Parisoul and Colorado’s own Josh Blue, The Nutcracker of Parker by Colorado School of Dance, and several programs by the Colorado Wind Ensemble, Parker Symphony Orchestra, Parker Chorale and Ballet Ariel.
Tickets for the summer season through August are available now at www.PACEcenteronline.org, 303.805.6800 and at the PACE Center Box Office at 20000 Pikes Peak Ave. in downtown Parker. Tickets for the 2012-2013 season go on sale June 26 at 10 a.m.
