Do you want to get involved and make a difference in your community? Now is your chance! A regular Town Council election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 to elect three Councilmembers and a Mayor to four-year terms. Serving on the Town Council is a great way to help shape the future of the Parker community.
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 7, individuals interested in running for Council can pick up a nomination petition at Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet. Potential candidates must obtain the required number of qualified signatures and file them with the Town Clerk on or before Aug. 27. After the signatures on the nomination petition are verified by the Town Clerk, the applicant’s name will be placed on the Nov. 6 ballot.
On July 25, the Town will hold a pre-candidate meeting for potential candidates. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Parker Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet. Discussion topics will include an overview of the position of Mayor and Councilmember, the process to become a candidate, how to obtain information related to council agendas, reports and calendars and any questions related to the position of Mayor or Councilmember. Meeting attendees will also receive a copy of the nomination petition and instructions.
The Town will also hold a candidate orientation meeting at Parker Town Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to determine the order in which candidate names will be placed on the ballot and to provide candidates with information related to election signs, campaign contributions, the Fair Campaign Practices Act, Code of Ethics and Disclosure statements.
To be eligible to run for office, candidates must be at least 18 years of age and be a registered elector of the Town. Additionally, candidates must be a current resident of Parker and resided in the Town for at least one year immediately preceding the election.
