AP Government Collaborative Program

Hello, high school students! The Town of Parker is excited to partner with you to help you satisfy your AP US Government and Politics class requirements and to provide you with a chance to learn more about the roles of the officials in your hometown.

We have created three options that we hope are of interest to you. The opportunities for the 2023/2024 school year are as follows:

#1 Parker’s Elected Officials in Action

This session gives you the chance to see the Mayor and Town Council members perform their official duties at a Town Council meeting. Here you will see resolutions and ordinances brought to them for official action (voting) on various projects and initiatives in the Town. The meeting typically last 2 to 2 ½ hours. Following you will meet with the officials to ask questions and discuss topics that are important to you. Please prepare and submit 3 questions to ask the Mayor and/or Town Councilmember during the Q & A time after the meeting. 

Time Commitment: 3 hours

Location: Parker Town Hall – 20120 Mainstreet

  • Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6:45 p.m.
  • Monday, March 4 at 6:45 p.m.
  • Monday, April 1 at 6:45 p.m.
  • Monday, April 15 at 6:45 p.m.

#2 Town of Parker Civics Seminar

This seminar will provide you with a chance to meet with Town Management and the Mayor and Town Council to learn more about Parker’s government. You will learn about the form of government, the roles of officials, and the services provided to residents. Some of these facts will surprise you! You will be able to ask questions and discuss topics that are important to you. After, you will attend a study session meeting where the Mayor and Town Council study issues, gather and analyze information, and clarify problems. Please prepare and submit three questions to ask Town Management and/or the Mayor and Town Councilmembers during the Q & A time. 

Time Commitment: 3 hours

#3 Classroom Visit

A visit to your classroom by the Mayor or a Town Councilmember can be arranged for a one-hour engagement. You help define the topics discussed by submitting questions and/or an agenda for the visit. This option is limited to one speaking engagement per class section, per school year and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
