Make your plans for the month ahead with our list of five things to know for December.
34th Annual Christmas Carriage Parade Dec. 8:
A cherished Parker holiday event returns Saturday, Dec. 8 when the Christmas Carriage Parade presented by Xfinity makes its way down Mainstreet. Presented by the Town of Parker and the Colorado Driving Society, this unique parade begins at noon and features horse-drawn carriages, wagons, surreys and stagecoaches from across Colorado.
Pre-parade festivities, including a holiday farmer's market, a petting zoo and pony rides, ice sculpting, and games with Santa's elves begin at 10:30 a.m. throughout the downtown area. After the parade, make your way to the Douglas County Libraries in Parker for pictures with Santa for only $5 per picture.
Please note there will be road and parking lot closures on the day of the event. Find more information on the Christmas Carriage Parade event webpage.
Parker Ice Trail at Discovery Park open for season:
After opening Thanksgiving weekend, the Parker Ice Trail at Discovery Park has assumed regular hours for the 2018-2019 season.
The Ice Trail is open 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. Admission and rental costs, as well as information about group rates and 4-Visit passes, can be found on the Ice Trail website.
One of the only ice trails in the country, the Parker skating path meanders through the park reminiscent of a frozen river or canal. Skaters or visitors can stay warm next to one of the three fire pits adjacent to the Ice Trail, or enjoy hot chocolate while watching skaters pass by. Concessions, skate rental and restroom facilities are available for all patrons visiting Discovery Park.
Parker Arts, Parker Parks and Recreation, and Parker Police seasonal events:
The season of celebration carries through December with performances and special events hosted by Parker Arts, Parker Parks and Recreation and the Parker Police Department.
A Classic Parker Holiday features an evening of traditional carols, familiar songs, and a few surprises in this annual celebration with the Parker Chorale and the Parker Symphony Orchestra Dec. 1 and 2.
Sounds of the Season, presented by the Parker Symphony Orchestra, is a family-friendly, shortened version of their holiday program with sign-alongs on Dec. 1.
Presentations of Clara’s Dream on Dec. 5, Elf The Musical Jr. Dec. 6 to 9, the Nutcracker of Parker Dec. 14 to 22, and New Adventures: From Tale to Tale Dec. 23 are ready to keep you in the holiday spirit through Christmas Day.
Visit with the jolly man himself at the Parker Fieldhouse on Dec. 9 during Milk and Cookies with Santa. Two sessions will be offered this year and pre-registration is required.
A special holiday-themed Coffee and Cocoa with a Cop will be held in the Parker Police Department lobby and courtyard (weather permitting) Dec. 21. Santa will also be making a visit to this event.
Know where to go for ice and snow policies:
Parker’s Engineering and Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining more than 500 lane miles of road in Town through the snowy season and beyond.
See how this responsibility is managed and access links to the Town’s Snow and Ice Control Policy, Snow Priority System, a list of snow plowing FAQs and other winter-weather resources on the Snow Operations webpage.
Monthly public meetings:
Parker Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 3 and 17 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet. On Monday, Dec. 17, Parker will be thanking Councilmembers Amy Holland and Josh Martin for their service to the Parker community and swearing in new Councilmembers Cheryl Poage and Jeff Toborg.
