This spring and summer, the Town of Parker will undertake the last of the renovation projects at The Schoolhouse in downtown Parker. The Schoolhouse officially reopened to the public in early 2018 following a historic restoration of this graceful downtown landmark.
The final construction project consists of the creation of a public plaza between Ruth Chapel and The Schoolhouse, as well as safety and accessibility improvements that will be made during the reconstruction of the parking lot behind the buildings. Plaza and parking lot enhancements will include a lighted special event space off Mainstreet that can accommodate tents for public and private activities, a vehicle drop-off area next to the building, better signage, and improved lighting and sidewalks for pedestrians and cars.
Construction will take place in two phases to ensure that half of the parking lot remains open at all times. Phase 1 construction will feature the closure of the South Lot from April 1 until mid-June. During this time, the south parking lot entrance will be closed, however, the former Mainstreet entrance will be temporarily reopened to provide vehicle access. Schoolhouse patrons will use the building's north and east entrances during this period of time.
Phase 2 construction will see the North Lot close from mid-June through October. The Mainstreet vehicle access point will be permanently removed and replaced with new streetscape. The public can park in the South Lot only during this phase, accessed by Pikes Peak Avenue, and both south and north building entrances will be utilized.
During the entirety of construction, street parking time restrictions on Pikes Peak Avenue, running along the south side of The Schoolhouse parking lot, will be relaxed.
