Do you know a Parker teen who is looking for a way to get involved in the community? A position on the Parker Youth Commission could be the perfect opportunity!
Created by the Town Council in 2022, the Parker Youth Commission provides students with a formal advisory role where they can learn more about their local government, participate in the process, and represent and articulate the needs of our community’s young citizens. Among the duties that commission members perform include:
- Making recommendations to the Mayor and Town Council on matters affecting youth in Parker and identifying opportunities to increase youth participation and involvement in local government.
- Serving their peers by informing local leaders of the needs and wishes of young residents; planning and implementing youth activities and recognition programs; and organizing and performing service projects.
The Parker Youth Commission consists of nine members who serve two-year terms. The Town is now accepting applications for four open positions that will be appointed in August. Preference will be given to applicants who are Parker residents, although any Douglas County students currently in grades 8 through 10 with strong ties to Parker (attend school, work, etc.) will also be considered for membership.
Applications will be accepted through Thursday, June 15. For more information about the Parker Youth Commission, and to learn more about how to submit an application, visit www.ParkerOnline.org/YouthCommission or contact Community Relations Liaison Cheri Sullivan at csullivan@parkeronline.org or 303.805.0365.
