Come and celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, April 30 from 9 to 11 a.m. Festivities will take place at the arboretum located at McCabe Meadows, 19700 Indian Pipe Lane, in Parker. The Town needs more than 100 volunteers to help plant 50 trees of various species including: Elms, Locust, Oaks and a few evergreen trees. No need to sign-up, just bring your own gloves and shovels and the Town will provide breakfast refreshments sponsored by Chick-fil-A!
After the tree planting, be sure to attend one of the demonstrations by the Town’s arborist. Join your Parker neighbors and learn which trees and plants are best for your area, how to plant them properly and make them last. In addition, there will be a tree climbing demonstration where you can learn about one exciting way Town trees are kept healthy and looking great! Town arborists will also give small tree and shrub pruning tips and demonstrations to help residents learn how to take care of their trees. Volunteers will receive a small plant and Arbor Day memorabilia. Children will enjoy having their faces painted and building bird houses at the Home Depot table.
Arbor Day is an important component of keeping Parker a “Tree City USA.” The Tree City USA® program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Parker has been named a “Tree City USA” for 17 years! To remain a “Tree City,” the Town must commit to enhancing public awareness ofthe importance of trees through events and educational opportunities such as the annual Arbor Day celebration. The Town must also spend at least $2 per resident on tree care such as planting and pruning.
Remember that the Town does not provide shovels or gloves. Tree planting, refreshments and giveaways will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. For questions regarding Parker’s celebration, please call 303.841.0353 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
