[ARCHIVED] Zero Tolerance in Effect for Fireworks

On June 14, Governor John Hickenlooper issued an Executive Order that bans all open burning and private fireworks in the State of Colorado. Open burning means any outdoor fire, including but not limited to campfires, warming fires, charcoal grill fires, fused explosives, fireworks and any other activity that poses a significant risk of starting a fire.

To comply with this order, on Monday, June 18, the Parker Town Council reinstated Parker’s full fire restriction ordinance. Under this ordinance “it shall be unlawful for any person to sell, use, explode or have in his or her possession with intent to sell, use or explode any fireworks within the Town” for the duration of the Executive Order issued by Governor John Hickenlooper, except professional fireworks displays, as provided by the Executive Order.

Penalty for Violating Fire Ban
Any person violating the Executive Order will face a class 3 misdemeanor under the criminal code and is punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $750 if caught by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.

Any person violating the Town Ordinance may, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not more than $499 for each offense if caught by the Parker Police Department.

We appreciate your cooperation with this important matter and your efforts to keep Parker safe! To report any violations, please contact the Parker Police Department at 303.841.9800. For more information, please contact the Emergency Manager at 303.805.6515 or djokerst@parkeronline.org.
