Is my tax return on time?
For a tax return to be considered timely filed, it must meet the following conditions:
• Hand delivered to the front desk at Town Hall on or before the due date of the return and the return must be stamped by Town staff with the date received.
• Postmarked on or before the due date of the return. Postmarked means date stamped by the USPS or any other third party mail carrier.
• Metered on or before the due date of the return AND received within 7 calendar days of the due date. Metered postage is regulated postage amounts printed onto an envelope for means of mailing. Date of metering is not considered the date of mailing.
• Metered on or before the due date of the return and date stamped as cleared by the USPS or other third party mail carrier on or before the due date of the return.
• Envelopes stamped without USPS cleared date or imprinted meter date will be treated as on time if received within 7 calendar days of the due date unless the date of the check falls after the return due date.
